I have been working at Maddie’s Place for about 8 months now. I answer all the calls, see everyone to their various visits and needs. One thing I have noticed in my time here has been the generosity of the Spokane community.
People are eager to donate or volunteer. Almost every week, I receive calls and messages from locals (although – one time I got a message from Australia!) looking for a way to serve our cause.
With every person I speak with, I see a glimmer in their eyes, hear ambition in their tone. The excitement in their hearts to give back in some way is quite evident. I’d imagine it’s the same excitement everyone at Maddie’s Place feels knowing that by just holding a baby close, they are aiding in setting them up for a better, healthy future. It’s quite an experience.
Allow me to recall just a few of the countless community members who have supported us.
Rockwood Retirement chose our organization as the recipients of their Christmas in Summer Donation Drive. They gave us baby clothes, diapers, slippers, robes, blankets, and so much more!
Christ the Redeemer Church’s youth group came by and helped with various outside projects, including painting our courtyard wall and weeding.
The Knights of Columbus filled 24 diaper bags full of baby essentials that we have been sending home with graduated moms.
This summer, Wall and Company Landscaping donated their services to completely turn our courtyard space around. The area went from being nearly unusable to a peaceful and homey space for our staff and families to care for the babies. What a blessing that has been this summer!
The list goes on and on. You know who you are. We couldn’t do it without you. Because movements like ours and so many other nonprofits fighting for change cannot tackle huge issues without a community rallying around them. Without individuals spreading the word. Without donations small and large. It’s a team effort.
So, here’s to you, reader. Thank you for being here.
